Abstract:
This optical communication system shortens time necessary for setting the wavelength between optical transceivers when starting up the system or when replacing or newly adding optical transceivers, and reduces the types of optical transceivers prepared to be newly added or as replacements. A first optical transceiver (1) outputs a first optical signal while switching the wavelength of the first optical signal to an optical fiber (3) side which becomes a medium for carrying out single-core bidirectional communication with a second optical transceiver (2) opposed to the first optical transceiver (1). The second optical transceiver (2), when the wavelength of the first optical signal becomes a receivable wavelength, identifies the wavelength of the received first optical signal and outputs, to the optical fiber (3) side, a second optical signal having a wavelength determined on the basis of the identification result. Upon reception of the second optical signal from the optical fiber (3) side, the first optical transceiver (1) stops switching of the wavelength of the first optical signal.
