Abstract:

The purpose of the present invention is to provide an optical fiber with which it is easier to achieve low transmission loss and low bending loss and which is easy to produce. This optical fiber (10) is provided with: a core part that comprises a center core portion (11), an intermediate layer (12) formed around the outer circumference of the center core portion, and a trench layer (13) formed around the outer circumference of the intermediate layer; and a clad part (14) formed around the outer circumference of the core part. The center core portion contains no germanium (Ge). The conditions of Δ1>Δ2>Δ3 and Δ1≥0.05% are fulfilled, where Δ1 represents the average maximum specific refractive index difference of the center core portion with respect to pure silica glass, Δ2 represents the average specific refractive index difference of the intermediate layer, and Δ3 represents the average specific refractive index difference of the trench layer. The intermediate layer (12), the trench layer (13), and the clad part (14) are all composed of a silica-based glass that contains, as additives, only fluorine (F) and chloride (Cl).
