Abstract:
In the present invention, a luminous flux incident on an optical waveguide is reproduced in a first direction corresponding to the horizontal direction of an image, or a second direction corresponding to the vertical direction, by diffraction due to a diffractive structure of an expansion region. The following relational expressions are satisfied, where the viewing angle of the image is ±F degrees, the angle between the diffractive structure and the travel direction of the luminous flux is α degrees, the inclination angle of the diffractive structure is β degrees, the angle between a Z-axis and the central light beam of the luminous flux incident on the expansion region is θA degrees, the angle between the Z-axis and the central light beam of a luminous flux diffracted by the expansion region and emitted is θB degrees, T [µm] is the thickness in the Z-direction of the diffractive structure, Ts [µm] is the smaller of the intervals between the diffractive structure and the front surface of the optical waveguide and the back surface of the optical waveguide, and L [µm] is the coherence length in the optical waveguide of the luminous flux diffracted by the expansion region and emitted. |θA – θB| < |F|/2, |β| × 2 × cos(α) ≤ |F| - |θA – θB|, and Ts > L/2.
