Abstract:
An optical wavelength converter simple in structure and high in practicality. When the intensity (power) of a controlling light to be input from a controlling light input unit (2) to a resonance type semiconductor optical amplifier (1) goes high, the intensity of a controlled light output from the amplifier (1) also goes high. Conversely, when the intensity of a controlling light goes low, so does the intensity of a controlled light. Accordingly, a signal having a wavelength of a controlling light can be changed to that having a wavelength of a controlled light. When a positional relation between a resonance peak of a semiconductor optical amplifier (1) and a controlled light in an initial condition is adjusted, an inversion operation or non-inversion operation is possible. When lights having wavelengths respectively corresponding to a plurality of peaks of resonance existing in a semiconductor optical amplifier (1) are used as controlled lights, a signal can be changed to have a plurality of wavelengths in parallel and collectively.
