The present invention provides: an organic EL image display device which has disposed therein a reflection layer, an organic electroluminescence layer group, a polarization separation layer, and a circularly polarizing plate in this sequence, wherein the polarization separation layer includes a polarization separation region which is disposed in a patterned configuration so as to correspond to at least some of the organic electroluminescence layers in the organic electroluminescence layer group, while the occurrence rate of positional misalignment between the polarization separation region and the organic electroluminescence layers corresponding to the polarization separation region is at most 10% throughout the entire area of a screen; and a production method for said organic EL image display device, the method comprising a step for laminating a layer composed of a liquid crystal composition in such a manner as to face the organic electroluminescence layer group and then curing the liquid crystal composition layer so as to form the polarization separation region. The organic EL image display device according to the present invention is capable of achieving high use efficiency of luminescence of the organic electroluminescence layer group and producing high luminance across the entire screen.
