An organic electroluminescent element has an anode, a luminous layer, and a cathode. The luminous layer contains a first compound and a second compound. The first compound is a delayed fluorescent compound. The second compound is expressed by general equation (20) noted below. Singlet energy S1 (M1) of the first compound and singlet energy S1 (M2) of the second compound satisfy the relationship of the mathematical formula noted below (Formula 1).
