Abstract:

A novel liquid−crystalline compound represented by the following formula (1), which gives an optical film excellent in the ability to maintain the alignment of a liquid crystal whose alignment has been fixed and in mechanical strength. Z¹−(CH₂)_n−L¹−P¹−L²−P²−L³−P³−L⁴−(CH₂)_m−Z² (1) [In the formula (1), Z¹ and Z² each independently represents any of the following formulae (2) to (4)&semi L¹, L², L³, and L⁴ each independently represents any of a single bond, −O−, −O−CO−, and −CO−O−&semi P¹ and P² each independently represents the following formula (5)&semi P³ represents a single bond or the following formula (5), wherein X represents hydrogen, methyl, or halogeno&semi and n and m each is an integer of 0 to 8.]
