Abstract:

The present application provides a packet processing method and a router. The method is used on a router. The router comprises: an input line card, an output line card, at least one exchange module for connecting the input line card and the output line card, and a first cache module connected to the exchange module. The first cache module comprises at least one cache block. The input line card comprises at least one second cache block, and the second cache module comprises at least one second cache block. The method comprises: an input line card receives at least one packet; the input line card obtains information about an available first cache block, a third cache module being a first cache module comprising the available first cache block; the input line card allocates a third cache block to each of the at least one packet according to information about at least one cache information block and the available first cache block stored in the input line card; and the input line card caches each packet into the third cache block. By means of the method, distributed caching of packets can be implemented.
