Abstract:
[Problem] To suppress luminance variations of emitted white light by increasing the fluorescence intensity of emitted light when fluorescence is produced by causing excitation light to enter a phosphor portion. [Solution] A phosphor element 1 comprises an incident surface 2 for excitation light Lin, an exit surface 3 opposing the incident surface 2, and a side surface 4. At least some of the excitation light incident on the incident surface 2 is converted into fluorescence, and the fluorescence is output from the exit surface 3. The area of the exit surface 3 is greater than the area of the incident surface 2. When viewed in a cross section Z perpendicular to the exit surface 3 along a longest dividing line W dividing the exit surface 3 into two, the phosphor element 1 has an inclination region G in which an inclination angle θ formed by the side surface 4 relative to a perpendicular axis P perpendicular to the exit surface 3 increases monotonously from the incident surface 2 toward the exit surface 3.
