This piezoelectric element 10 comprises: a piezoelectric electromagnetic device 1 containing, as the main component, a composite oxide having a perovskite-type crystal structure; a first electrode 2a provided on a first surface 1a of the piezoelectric electromagnetic device 1; and a second electrode 2b provided on a second surface 1b facing the first surface 1a. The piezoelectric electromagnetic device 1 mainly has a rhombohedral crystal structure. A crystal axis of the piezoelectric electromagnetic device 1 is [100] oriented, and the direction of the [100] orientation is perpendicular to the direction in which the first electrode 2a and the second electrode 2b face each other.
