Abstract:

[Problem] To provide a piston ring and a manufacturing method therefor, in which an outer peripheral surface and a side surface are given different film properties, wear resistance is maintained over a long period of time, and aluminum adhesion with a piston ring groove can be suppressed. [Solution] A piston ring (10) that is mounted on a piston made of an aluminum alloy, and that slides along a cylinder liner of which Fe is the main component, wherein a hard carbon film (3) that does not contain hydrogen is formed on an outer peripheral surface (12a) and on at least one side surface (12b1, 12b2), the hard carbon film (3a) formed on the outer peripheral surface does not have a columnar structure, and the hard carbon film (3b) formed on the side surface has a columnar structure extending in a direction intersecting the side surface.
