Abstract:
A planar illumination device (1) of an embodiment is provided with a substrate (2), a first optical sheet (5), and a second optical sheet (7). A plurality of light sources (3) are two-dimensionally arranged on the substrate (2). The first optical sheet (5) is disposed on the surface side where the light sources (3) on the substrate (2) are provided, and is provided with light blocking portions (6) at positions overlapping with the centers of the light sources (3) in a plan view. The second optical sheet (7) is disposed on the surface side where the light blocking portions (6) on the first optical sheet (5) are provided, and is provided with through-holes (7a) or recessed portions (7b) for housing the thickness of the light blocking portions (6).
