Abstract:
A planar illumination device (1) comprises: a plurality of light sources (4); a condenser lens (6); and a field lens (8). The plurality of light sources (4) are disposed two-dimensionally on a substrate (3), and the light emission of each is controlled individually. The condenser lens (6) is disposed so as to be parallel to the substrate (3) on the emission side of the light sources (4), and converges light emitted from the light sources (4) into substantially parallel light beams. The field lens (8) is disposed on the emission side of the condenser lens (6), and is disposed so as to be inclined in at least one intersecting direction in a plane parallel to the substrate (3). The field lens outwardly spreads the incident light from the condenser lens (6), and a uniform optical distance is secured between the field lens and an externally-mounted liquid crystal panel (101).
