Abstract:
A polyester which has a hydroxyl value of 5 to 200 mg-KOH/g and a weight-average molecular weight of 10,000 to 500,000 and is obtained by the polycondensation of one or more polycarboxylic acids comprising at least one member selected among alicyclic dicarboxylic acids having a molecular structure in which the two carboxyl groups are respectively bonded to two adjacent carbon atoms and functional derivatives thereof with one or more polyhydric alcohols comprising an alkanediol having a molecular structure in which the two hydroxyl groups are respectively bonded to two carbon atoms separated by a carbon atom having no hydrogen atom. This polyester is produced using a heteropolyacid as a polycondensation catalyst. It is useful as a surface modifier for polymers such as an olefin polymer.
