Abstract:
This compound represented by general formula (i) includes a ring B that has a partial structure Ki 1 represented by any one of general formulas (K-1) to (K-6) and that has at least one P-Sp- group and at least one Ri 2 (Ri 2 represents a straight-chain or branched alkyl group having 2-10 carbon atoms or a straight-chain or branched halogenated alkyl group having 2-10 carbon atoms, and, optionally, -CH2- in the alkyl group or halogenated alkyl group is substituted with -CH=CH-, -O-, -COO-, or -OCO-, but -O- does not exist consecutively). Therefore, when the compound is used for a liquid crystal composition, the compound adheres to substrates sandwiching the liquid crystal composition (liquid crystal layer), and is capable of holding liquid crystal molecules being aligned vertically, improving the stability of alignment properties, and ensuring low-temperature storage stability.
