Abstract:
A poly(vinyl alcohol)-based polymer (PVA) having satisfactory unsusceptibility to high-temperature dissolution is provided. The PVA is obtained by saponifying any of a homopolymer obtained from a vinyl ester monomer, a copolymer of a vinyl ester monomer and a monofunctional monomer which is not a vinyl ester, a copolymer of a vinyl ester monomer and a polyfunctional monomer, and a copolymer of a vinyl ester monomer, a monofunctional monomer which is not a vinyl ester, and a polyfunctional monomer. A 0.4 mass% aqueous solution of the PVA, in a dynamic light scattering examination at a temperature of 25°C, gives a particle size distribution in which the particle diameter at 50% cumulative frequency is 50 nm or larger.
