Abstract:
A preload adjustment method capable of adjusting preload on a rolling bearing
for supporting a main spindle etc. of a machine tool. The adjustment is made without
a reduction in rigidity of the bearing relative to external force acting in the
radial direction. A bearing device (2) to which the method is applied has rolling
bearings (3, 4, 4) for supporting a shaft (1), a bearing box (5), in the bore surface
of which the outer rings (3a, 4a, 4a) of the rolling bearings (3, 4, 4) are fitted,
cooling flow paths (21A, 21B) for cooling the bearing box (5), and a cooling oil
supply device (22) for supplying cooling oil to the cooling flow paths (21A, 21B).
The method causes the bearing box (5) to have a temperature change by controlling
the flow rate of the cooling oil supplied from the cooling oil supply device (22)
to the cooling flow paths (21A, 21B). Thermal expansion and contraction of the
bearing box (5) caused by the temperature change changes redial clearances of
the bearings (3, 4, 4) fitted in the bore surface of the bearing box, and by this,
preload is adjusted.
