Abstract:

A 5−(3−cyanophenyl)−3−formylbenzoic acid compound represented by the general formula (IV) is obtained by reacting a 5−bromo−3−hydroxymethylbenzoic acid compound represented by the general formula (I) with manganese dioxide to prepare a 5−bromo−3−formylbenzoic acid compound represented by the general formula (II) and reacting the compound represented by the formula (II) with 3−cyanophenylboric acid represented by the formula (III) in the presence of a palladium complex. (IV) (I) (II) (III) (In the formulae, R is hydrogen or C₁₋₁₀ alkyl.)
