Title:
PROCESS FOR PRODUCING CONTINUOUS MAGNESIUM MATERIAL
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2006/100859
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A process for producing a continuous magnesium material having excellent suitability for plastic working; and a continuous magnesium material obtained by the process. Pure magnesium or a magnesium alloy is cast and this cast material is subjected to plastic working to obtain a continuous processed material. The plastic working involves hot working which is conducted at 250°C or higher so as to result in a decrease in sectional area. Hot working yields oxides around the surfaces of the work during the working. Because of the presence of such oxides around the surface of the processed material, there is a possibility that the oxides might serve as starting points for cracks or wire breakage when the processed material is subjected to plastic working (secondary processing) such as wire drawing or forging. In this process, a surface layer of the processed material is hence removed to thereby effectively eliminate the oxides serving as starting points for cracks or wire breakage. Thus, suitability for secondary processing is improved.
