Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a process suitable as a process for mass-producing liquiritigenin.
[Solution] A process for producing isoliquiritigenin, characterized by coupling a 4-alkoxycinnamic acid represented by formula (I) with a 1,3-alkoxybenzene represented by formula (II) through the Friedel-Crafts reaction (A) to synthesize a trialkoxyisoliquiritigenin represented by formula (III), crystallizing out the reaction product, and eliminating the protecting groups therefrom to obtain isoliquiritigenin, which is represented by formula (IV). The isoliquiritigenin, which is represented by formula (IV), is administered as a precursor for liquiritigenin to the body, thereby obtaining in vivo the pharmacological effect of the (-) isomer of liquiritigenin.
