Abstract:

A process for producing a resin-coated pigment giving an ink and coating material which have excellent pigment dispersion stability, rapid dryability, and a high gloss and density and which contain no substance causative of a decrease in pigment dispersion performance, such as an organic solvent or a salt. The process is characterized by dispersing a pigment in an aqueous solution obtained by dissolving an anionic-group-containing resin in the presence of a basic compound and then removing the basic compound from the resultant aqueous solution using an ion-exchange means to thereby deposit the anionic-group-containing resin on the pigment surface.
