Abstract:
A process for the preparation of aromatic sulfenyl chlorides represented by the general formula (II) Y¿n?-Ar-S-C1, wherein Ar is an aromatic hydrocarbon ring residue; Y is a monovalent electron-attracting group, with the proviso that when n is 2 or above, Y's may be the same or different from each other; and n is an integer of 1 to 12, characterized by reacting (A) an aromatic thioether represented by the general formula (I) Y¿n?-Ar-S-R?1¿, wherein Ar, Y and n are each as defined above; and R?1¿ is tertiary hydrocarbyl with (B) chlorine; and a process for the preparation of thioimidazoles represented by general formula (IV), wherein Ar, Y and n are each as defined above; and R?2¿, R?3¿ and R?4¿ are each as defined in the description by reacting an aromatic sulfenyl chloride represented by the general formula (II) with an imidazole compound represented by general formula (III), wherein R?2¿, R?3¿ and R?4¿ are each as defined above.
