Abstract:

An optical modulation element (200) is illuminated through an illumination member (300) with light emitted from an illumination unit (100) comprising a plurality of light emitting bodies (101), a section (102) for lighting/driving the light emitting bodies, a plurality of light guide members (103) for guiding lights emitted from the plurality of light emitting bodies (101) optically and independently, a section (104) for making it possible to move the light guide members (103) and the light emitting bodies (101) relatively, and a section (107) for controlling the moving section (104) and/or the light emitting body driving section (102) so as to select lights entering the plurality of light guide members (103) out of those emitted from the plurality of light emitting bodies (101). A display control section (600) controls the light selection control section (107) and the optical modulation element (200) such that a suitable optical modulation element (200) is illuminated with the outgoing light from the illumination unit (100).
