Abstract:

A quaternary ammonium bifluoride compound; and a process for stereoselectively producing a nitroalcohol with the compound. The quaternary ammonium bifluoride compound is represented by the following formula (I). In the presence of the compound of the formula (I), a silyl nitronate obtained by silylating a nitroalkane compound is reacted with an aldehyde. Thus, a sterically highly selected nitroalcohol can be produced.
