Abstract:
Provided are: a rack guide that can stably support a rack bar while preventing knock sounds from occurring; and a gear mechanism using the rack guide. This rack guide (30) is provided with at least three protruding sections (34) that extend in the direction of an axis O3 of the rack guide (30) and protrude from an outer peripheral surface (314) of a base (31). Each of the protruding sections (34) comprises: a pair of elastically deformable arms (first sliding sections) (341) that slide against an inner wall surface (78) of a cylinder case (72) of a housing (70); and an elastically deformable cylindrical section (second sliding section) (342) that is located radially inward of the pair of arms (341). The cylindrical section (342) slides against this inner wall surface (78) if the pair of arms (341) have become greatly elastically deformed as a result of approaching the inner wall surface (78) of the cylinder case (72) of the housing (70).
