Abstract:
Provided are: a rectangular steel pipe in which the mechanical properties of plate parts are made excellent and the function of oxidized scale formed on inner and outer surfaces of the tube is sufficiently ensured, satisfactory toughness at corner parts is also ensured, and prevents hardening through processing; a method for producing the rectangular steel pipe; and a building structure manufactured using the rectangular steel pipe. The rectangular steel pipe is configured such that a plurality of plate parts (101) and a plurality of corner parts (102) are formed alternately in the tube circumferential direction, the yield stress YS of each of the plate parts (101) is 295 MPa or more, the tensile strength TS of each of the plate parts (101) is 400 MPa or more, the yield ratio YR of each of the plate parts (101) is 0.80 or less, the Charpy absorbed energy of each of the corner parts (102) at 0°C is 70 J or more, the thickness of the oxidized scale on the inner and outer surfaces of the tube is 1 to 20 μm inclusive, and the difference between an average Vickers hardness at a position located at a predetermined distance from the inner surface of a tip of each of the corner part (102) and that at a position located at a predetermined distance from the outer surface of a tube-circumferential-direction center part of each of the plate parts (101) is 5 to 60 HV, inclusive.
