Provided in the present invention is a refrigerator, which comprises: a cooling circuit, which implements a cooling loop of a refrigerant sequentially flowing through a compressor, a condenser and an evaporator to return to the compressor again; a hot gas bypass pipe, which directly connects a discharge side of the compressor or the condenser and an inflow side of the evaporator; a switching valve, which switches between a state in which the cooling cycle is performed, and a state in which the refrigerant discharged from the compressor flows to a hot gas defrosting process of the evaporator via a hot gas bypass pipe; a control unit, which controls the compressor and the switching valve; and an external air temperature sensor, which detects the external air temperature and transmits detection data to the control unit. The rotational speed of the compressor is variable, and when the hot gas defrosting process is performed, the control unit allows the compressor to operate at a rotational speed corresponding to the external air temperature detected by the sensor, and when the external air temperature has a relationship T1 < T2, the rotational speed of the compressor 21 at T1 is higher than the rotational speed of the compressor at T2.
