Title:
RESIN-COATED METALLIC PIGMENT
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2018/100806
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
In a process for treating an aluminum pigment using an acidic monomer, the outermost surface of the pigment corrodes and smoothness is compromised, or a polymer coating is not formed to a uniform thickness; therefore, the gloss and sense of brightness caused by the scattering of incident light will be degraded. Furthermore, chemical resistance is degraded by the presence of portions (pinholes) where the polymer coating is not formed. This resin-coated metallic pigment was perfected upon it having been discovered that exceptional surface smoothness is exhibited in a resin-coated metallic pigment coated by a polymer that contains a monomer having a hydroxyl group, whereby the resin coating is uniform, which yields a sense of optical brilliance.
