Abstract:
Provided are a secondary cooling method and a secondary cooling apparatus for a continuous casting slab, which can achieve efficient secondary cooling without requiring a large capital investment. The secondary cooling method for a continuous casting slab, in which a slab 3 cast by a continuous casting machine 1 is secondarily cooled in a secondary cooling band 11 having a vertical band 5, a curved band 7, and a horizontal band 9, comprises: a pre-stage cooling step in a pre-stage cooling unit 13 of an upstream portion of the horizontal band 9; and a post-stage cooling step in a post-stage cooling unit 15 of a downstream portion of the horizontal band. In the pre-stage cooling step, the slab is cooled by a coolant having a flow rate density of 300-4000 l/(m2·min), and a boiling state of the coolant on the surface of the slab is set to nuclear boiling in the pre-stage cooling step. In the post-stage cooling step, the slab is cooled by a coolant having a flow rate density of 2-50% inclusive of the flow rate density of the coolant in the pre-stage cooling step, and a boiling state of the coolant on the surface of the slab is maintained at nuclear boiling in the post-stage cooling step.
