Abstract:

A shovel according to an embodiment of the present invention is provided with a lower travel body (1), an upper turning body (3) mounted on the lower travel body (1), an excavation attachment attached to the upper turning body (3), an orientation-detection device (M3) for detecting the orientation of the excavation attachment, and a controller (30). The controller (30) has: a ground-surface-shape-information-acquisition unit (33) for acquiring information pertaining to the current shape of the ground surface to be excavated, on the basis of the transitions in the orientation of the excavation attachment detected by the orientation detection device (M3); and an excavation control unit (34) for controlling the excavation attachment on the basis of the information pertaining to the current shape of the ground surface to be excavated as acquired by the ground-surface-shape-information-acquisition unit (33).
