Abstract:
Provided is a liquid crystal orientation agent that is used in order to obtain a liquid crystal oriented film for use in a liquid crystal display element. The liquid crystal orientation agent improves the response speed and produces a good oriented state, whether or not a polymerizable compound is added to the liquid crystals. The agent comprises a polysiloxane obtained by polycondensation of alkoxysilanes including the alkoxysilanes represented by formulas (1) and (2).

(R1 is a C8-30 hydrocarbon group optionally substituted by fluorine atoms, and R2 is a C1-5 alkyl group.)
