Abstract:

This spark plug comprises a cylindrical insulator having a shaft hole extending in an axial direction, a main body metal fitting disposed on the outer periphery of the insulator, a central electrode disposed in the shaft hole of the insulator, and a grounding electrode connected to the leading end of the main body metal fitting and facing the central electrode. The main body metal fitting has a threaded portion mating with a screw thread in a mounting hole of an internal combustion engine. When surface area Ss represents the surface area of the portion from the rear end of the threaded portion to the leading end of the threaded portion on the outer peripheral surface of the main body metal fitting, surface area Sa represents the surface area of the portion of the main body metal fitting exposed to the combustible gas of the internal combustion engine, and surface area Sb represents the surface area of the portion of the insulator exposed to the combustible gas, the relationship Ss/(Sa + Sb) ≥ 2.6 is satisfied.
