Abstract:
A spatial light modulator is provided to improve in light utilization rate in
comparison with a conventional one comprised of a liquid crystal panel. A spatial
light modulator (3) has a plurality of elements (10) disposed in a two-dimensional
configuration on a substrate (11). Each element (10) includes a rotating plate
(12), the attitude of which is variable in angle with respect to the substrate
(11), and an optical filter (13) provided on the rotating plate (12). Portions
in the element (10) except the optical filter (13) form a micro-actuator. The
optical filter (13) is a penetrative or reflective type optical filter with a
wavelength-selective characteristic. The wavelength-selective characteristic
of the optical filter (13) varies in accordance with an incident angle of incident
light with respect to the optical filter (13).
