A method of installing a steering engine (1) on a steering engine deck (11), comprising the steps of forming an installation base plate (54), a steering engine installation stand (51), and the steering engine (1) integrally with each other to form a combined body, supporting the combined body on the steering engine deck through the stay materials (54b) of the installation base plate (54) and adjusting bolts (54d), forming an assembly by connecting a steering shaft to the steering engine (1), adjusting the position of the installation base plate (54) in a horizontal plane by inserting a wedge (54a) into the hole (55) of the steering engine deck in the state of the installation base plate (54) loosely fitted into the hole, adjusting the inclination and vertical position of the installation base plate (54) with the adjusting bolts (54d) to properly hold the assembly in axial, longitudinal, lateral, and vertical directions, and welding the outer peripheral edge part of the installation base plate (54) to the peripheral edge part of the hole (55).
