Abstract:
Provided is a strain element (10) comprising a frame part (11) and a central part (12) that are connected by arm parts (20)-(22), wherein masking is applied to portions of the strain element (10) other than the arm parts (20)-(22) where a strain gauge (A1) or the like is to be disposed and peening is performed to form a compressive residual stress layer on peripheral surfaces of the arm parts (20)-(22). When the strain element (10) bears a load caused by an external force, the arm parts (20)-(22) undergo elastic deformation but the compressive residual stress layer formed thereon makes it less likely for a fatigue fracture to occur in the arm parts (20)-(22). If peening is performed by shooting a shot material, then the surface roughness of the arm parts (20)-(22) increases, the adhesion of the strain gauge improves for improved detection accuracy, and stable measurement can be ensured.
