Title:
STRUCTURAL MEMBER FOR VEHICLE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2010/055589
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A through-hole (14) penetrating through a side wall (12b) of an outer reinforcement member (12) is formed in the lower part of a center pillar (1). The through-hole (14) is substantially D-shaped and has a rectilinear section (14a) and a circular arc section (14b) connected to opposite ends of the rectilinear section (14a). The circular arc section (14b) has a greater length than the rectilinear section (14a). The rectilinear section (14a) is placed on the inner side of the vehicle, and the circular arc section (14b) is placed on the outer side of the vehicle. Because the circular arc section (14b) has an allowance in its length, tensile stress is less likely to occur at the circular arc section (14b) when the center pillar (1) receives a load (F) in a side collision, and as a result, the center pillar (1) is less prone to breakage.
