Abstract:
An electrical current is distributed between a counter electrode comprising an insoluble conductive material and a metal of interest in an aqueous solution containing a nitrate ion, more preferably containing both a phosphate ion and a nitrate ion, to form an adhesive surface on the surface of the metal. When the metal is aluminum, titanium, an iron steel, a stainless steel, nickel, copper, an alloy of any one of the aforementioned metals, or a surface plated with any one of the aforementioned materials, the current distribution is carried out while connecting the metal to an anode. When the metal is zinc, magnesium, an alloy of any one of the aforementioned metals, or a surface plated with any one of the aforementioned materials, the current distribution is carried out while connecting the metal to a cathode. In this manner, a surface-modified metallic material having good adhesion to commodity plastics, commodity engineering plastics, elastomers, coating films and adhesive agents can be produced.
