Abstract:
The surroundings monitoring device is applied to a vehicle (50) equipped with a range-finding sensor (22) for emitting probe waves and receiving the reflected waves and an imaging device (21) for capturing an image of the surroundings of the host vehicle. The surroundings monitoring device is equipped with: an information acquisition part for acquiring, as detection information obtained by the range-finding sensor regarding objects (52 through 55) which are in the surroundings of the host vehicle, distance information, direction information, and object width information of the objects; an area setting part for setting in an image captured by the imaging device an image processing area (61), to which image processing is to be applied, on the basis of the distance information, the direction information, and the object width information acquired by the information acquisition part; and an object recognition part for recognizing the objects by applying image processing to the image processing area set by the area setting part.
