Abstract:
The present invention relates to a system and a method for activating a fuel cell. The system for activating a fuel cell comprises: a fuel cell which generates electric power and includes a cathode terminal and an anode terminal; a control module which controls power supply between the fuel cell and a load consuming power; a sensor unit which is disposed in the control module and measures a power state of the fuel cell; and a short circuit unit which is disposed in the control module and is connected between the cathode terminal and the anode terminal. According to the present invention, when an actual measured power value of the fuel cell measured and calculated by the sensor unit is smaller than a preset power reference value, the short circuit unit is activated to short-circuit the cathode terminal and the anode terminal. Accordingly, a current pulse is applied to the fuel cell, an oxide on the surface of the fuel cell is removed, a hydrated region is formed inside the fuel cell, and the fuel cell is activated to thus maintain and improve performance.
