Description:
TOPICAL HAIR COMPOSITION

FIELD OF INVENTION

The present invention relates to a synergistic balanced composition for topical application on hair for promoting growth of hair, treatment of hair loss and damaged hair. The present application also discloses the method of preparing said composition.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Hair or the skin plays an important role to show the function of human organs and the condition of the human body. Hair determines a beautiful effect in individuals and personal appearance or image. Hair grows about 0.3-0.4 mm a day by an excess of blood, but white hair or hair loss conditions appear due to various factors including a reduction in hair function by testosterone, a reduction in the metabolic function of the hair root, a reduction in the physiological function of a head, a reduction in regional cerebral blood flow that causes abnormal hair growth due to a reduction in the peripheral vascular blood flow of subcutaneous tissue of a head, nutritional deficiency, stresses, drug side effects, and genetic factors. Therefore, the speed of hair growth is based upon genetics, gender, age, hormones. It may be reduced by nutrient deficiency (i.e., anorexia, anemia, zinc deficiency) and hormonal fluctuations (i.e., menopause, polycystic ovaries, thyroid disease).

Now a days, healthy hair growth is impaired due to various factors including nutritional deficiency, the excessive intake of instant food, pollution, use of chemical compositions on hair, etc. Normal hair growth requires essential nutrients like proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals in specific amount. Deficiency of essential nutrients leads to hair problems and hair damages. Healthy hair growth requires a complexity of nutrients and a ready supply of oxygen to maintain or promote hair growth. Hair nutrition is therefore a vital part of any treatment regime. A truly systematic and rigorous approach must be taken when formulating a composition for hair. A balanced, bioavailable formula to protect and maintain hair growth is vital. There are many treatments available medically and non-medically. Medically there are medicines to treat scalp conditions, recover chemical imbalance, etc. internally and non-medically there are topical solutions like hair oils, hair gels, shampoos, spa treatments, chemical masks, cosmetic preparations, etc. to prevent hair loss and re growth. There are also artificial treatments like hair weaving, hair replacement surgeries, etc. All these efforts are done to suffice the human’s intrinsic need to look desirable and good.

Medicinal treatment contains vasodilators such as carpronium chloride, minoxidil and various extracts, hormones for inhibiting testosterone action such as esterogen or estragiol, and testosterone activity inhibitors such as pentadecanoic acid or finasteride do trigger instant hair growth but once the application is stopped hair shedding increases and such treatments are costly and may require regular visits to salons or medical facility. Non-medical preparations which are available in market, only superficially delay the hair fall process by keeping the hair shafts lubricated externally but are not long-term solutions to the problem of un-timely hair loss. The surgical processes of weaving, re-installing hair are last resort where hair re-growth is not possible, and the process is very costly and not affordable by many. There are various herbal compositions available in the market for hair treatments.

There are various published patent and non-patent literature which discloses the hair care composition and hair loss treatment or revitalization by various method.

Although the foregoing compositions available in the market have exhibited positive effects on the scalp in preventing hair loss and in promoting hair growth, the majority are meant to be applied topically to the hair or scalp, and most attack only certain causes of hair loss without acting to promote the growth of hair. Further, the compositions available in market are usually oil based, which makes them unpopular to apply them in daytime or all throughout 24hours as they affect the look and feel of the hair. Hair is an integral part of one’s personality. The look and feel of the hair is very important for individuals especially youth as it has profound impact on the personality of any individual. Usually people do not prefer to apply oil-based compositions during the daytime. Also, most of the compositions available in the market requires 3 to 4 times application on the scalp, which becomes practically unviable for individuals especially working individuals. Further, it has been observed that the compositions especially the aqueous based compositions usually contain synthetic excipients, which causes irritation and allergic reactions on application. Further, the compositions available in the market does not disclose a balanced composition which provides all the essential nutrients in a balanced amount required for the hair care, hair loss treatment or revitalization of hair yet devoid of any synthetic ingredient. Furthermore, the dietary needs of hair at daytime and night time are different as the exposure of hairs to surrounding environment in day and night time is different. In daytime, hairs are more exposed to harsh sunlight, dirt and dust. Further, the requirements of daytime and night time compositions to be applied on hair are different. Day time composition requires non-greasy, quickly absorbable compositions whereas night time compositions can be oilier. The compositions for hair available in market does not differentiate them between day time or night time compositions.

Bacterial fungal growth, dandruff, itching, etc. are common symptoms in patients suffering from hair diseases. In such conditions, maintaining goof hygiene always helps in faster relief. It has been observed that most of the compositions for hair treatment also comes in plastic bottle with or without applicator. Often one bottle of hair oils or hair composition with or without applicator is used by entire family. This often leads to cross contamination eg if a hair composition in bottle with comb like applicator is applied by one person who is having fungal infection in hair and the same hair composition from same bottle is applied by second person, the second person will get infection of first person. Also, the hands of each person come in contact with the bottle, which may often deteriorate the hair composition and can cause infection to the users/patients using the hair composition from the same bottle. The hair compositions are often not packed in packings which avoid cross contamination.

Therefore, there is a need for improved balanced hair care composition which is not only non-prescription, non-surgical, inexpensive, natural composition but also provide all the essential elements needed for easily and quickly growing healthy hair, preventing hair loss or revitalization. Also, there is need for water based balanced hair care compositions which does not alter the look and feel of the hair and also provides sustained and complete nutrition to the hair thereby promoting hair growth. Further the compositions should be packed in innovative packing which avoids cross contamination between individuals using the hair compositions from same bottle and avoids direct contact of an individual with the hair composition.
