The present invention is provided with: a piezoelectric body (4); a signal line-side electrode (12) provided to the piezoelectric body; and a ground line-side electrode (13) provided to the piezoelectric body. Ultrasound is emitted from the piezoelectric body by the application of voltage between the signal line-side electrode and the ground line-side electrode. The present invention is also provided with a circuit-shorting/-opening means (5) for switching the signal line-side electrode and the ground line-side electrode between a short-circuit state and an open-circuit state depending on a control signal for controlling whether ultrasound is emitted. The circuit-shorting/-opening means switches from the short-circuit state to the open-circuit state in response to a control signal for emitting ultrasound, and switches from the open-circuit state to the short-circuit state in response to a control signal for not emitting ultrasound. This configuration makes it possible to provide an ultrasound probe in which the reliability of the piezoelectric body in a high-temperature environment or an environment having rapid temperature changes is maintained without an adverse effect on the piezoelectric properties.
