Abstract:
Provided is a vinyl alcohol-based polymer useful as an additive for oil well cement. The vinyl alcohol-based polymer is obtained by saponifying a homopolymer of a vinyl ester monomer or a copolymer of a vinyl ester monomer and a polyfunctional monomer, and the difference (A-B) between the transmittance (A) at 660 nm and the transmittance (B) at 430 nm for 1 mass% of an aqueous solution of the vinyl alcohol-based polymer is 5-25. The vinyl alcohol-based polymer preferably has a transmittance of 95% or less in the entire wavelength region of 200 nm to 800 nm for 1 mass% of an aqueous solution, and preferably has a yellow index of 10 or less.
