Abstract:
A washing machine according to the present invention is provided with: a washing tub that is rotatably provided in a water tank; a water supply unit that supplies water into the water tank; a heating unit that heats the water stored in the water tank; a water level detection unit that detects the level of the water stored in the water tank; and a control unit that carries out a washing operation and a tank washing operation including a tank sterilization step in which the water stored in the water tank is heated by the heating unit, and the inside of the water tank is sterilized by means of steam generated through the heating. The control unit performs control, in the tank sterilization step, so as to set the first water level of the water stored in the water tank to be lower than the lowest water level set for the washing operation, and to be higher than a water level at which the lower end of the washing tub is in contact with the water surface.
