Abstract:
Provided are: a water-based composition which can impart a viscous property to water and can exhibit a satisfactory viscous-property-imparting effect even when the water-based composition has such a formulation that a conventional composition is less likely to exhibit a viscosity-imparting effect; a diluted composition; and a water-based coating composition. The water-based composition comprises a block copolymer (A1) represented by (X-)a[R1(-W1-R2-W2)b]m(-R1(-X)c)p and water, in which, in all of X's in the block copolymer (A1) represented by formula (1), the content of X's each represented by Y is 5 mol% or more, and the A1/(water) value that is a ratio of the mass of the block copolymer (A1) to the mass of water is 5/95 to 50/50.
