Abstract:
Provided is a water exposure suppressing mechanism for an outboard motor, the mechanism being capable of preventing an increase in the size of an engine. A water exposure suppressing mechanism 50 is provided in an outboard motor 10, and comprises: an engine E; an exhaust pipe 44 which includes an exhaust port 47 that opens inside a casing C, and which discharges exhaust gas from the engine E to the inside of the casing C; and a catalytic converter 48 that is provided in the exhaust pipe 44 and cleans the exhaust gas. A plate 52 is provided near the exhaust port 47 to prevent infiltration of water via the exhaust port 47.
