A white light source is provided with a light-emitting diode having a light-emission peak wavelength within the range of 350 nm to 490 nm, and a fluorescent body that emits visible light by the excitation in response to the light from the light-emitting diode. To any local maximum value of light-emission intensity in the light-emission spectrum in the range of 350 to 780 nm in the white light source, the ratio of the local minimum value of light-emission intensity that is closest to the local maximum value on the long wavelength side is set such that if the local maximum value is 1.0 then the local minimum value is 0.5 or more. Further, to any local maximum value of light-emission intensity in the light-emission spectrum in the range of 350 to 780 nm in the white light source, the ratio of the local minimum value of light-emission intensity that is closest to the local maximum value on the long wavelength side is set such that if the local maximum value is 1.0 then the local minimum value is preferably 0.7 or more. According to the aforementioned configuration, the light-emission intensity is prevented from surging in a specific wavelength domain in the light-emission spectrum, and thus a white light source that is visible in the same tone as sunlight can be provided.
