To optimally maintain engine efficiency in accordance with the operating status of a vehicle. On the basis of the power needed to drive a load, a control device for a wheel loader sets an engine speed to either an upper-limit rotation range equal to or higher than a prescribed upper-limit speed R2, a lower-limit rotation range lower than the upper-limit speed R2 and equal to or lower than a prescribed lower-limit speed R1, or an intermediate rotation range between the upper-limit rotation range and the lower-limit rotation range. In the upper-limit rotation range, the engine and a power storage device are controlled so that the power of the power storage device is used to assist the power output from the engine to the load. In the lower-limit rotation range and the intermediate rotation range, the engine and the power storage device are controlled so that the power output of the engine is used to charge the power storage device.
