Abstract:
Provided is a workpiece position detecting method comprising the steps of: reading shape data of a workpiece (W); obtaining a first image by imaging the workpiece (W) from a first direction; dividing the first image to a first region having a luminosity value within a predetermined range and a second region having a luminosity value out of the predetermined range; comparing the shape data with the first image in the first region wherein the comparison provides a position and a direction of the workpiece (W) in a mechanical coordinate system of a machine tool; determining, on the basis of the shape data arranged in the provided position and the direction, whether or not the shape data contains a characteristic shape (CS) in the second region; obtaining second image by imaging the workpiece (W) from a second direction; and collating the shape data with the second image in the second region when it is determined that the shape data contains the characteristic shape (CS) in the second region.
