Abstract:
To provide a raw material for brake shim of excellent machinability, in which a surface coating film shows high adhesion to a base material while showing excellent salt water resistance, without performing chromating.SOLUTION: A raw material for brake shim is characterized in that on at least a part of a one-sided main surface or both side main surfaces of a base material made of a metal plate, a surface coating film is provided through a metal-containing membrane containing: (A) a reaction product of one or more kinds of carbonate or acid selected from Mg carbonate, Co carbonate, Zr carbonate, Mn carbonate, Ni carbonate and Cu carbonate, and metal; and (B) one or more kinds selected from silica, alumina, zirconia and titania.SELECTED DRAWING: None
