PURPOSE: To suppress the occurrence of yellow contamination of the unexposed parts after color development processing and reproduce distinct colors by a subtractive color process by containing the specific 5-pyrazolone type magenta color forming coupler to a silver halide emulsion layer thereby forming the color photographic material.

CONSTITUTION: The 3-anilino-5-pyrazolone magenta color forming coupler shown by general formula-I (R is aliphatic hydrocarbon groups of less than C35, heterocyclic groups, aryl groups; X is halogen, alkoxy; Z is H, groups eliminated by coupling; Y1 thru Y5 are H, halogen, cyano, alkyl of C1W5, trifluoromethyl, alkoxy of C1W5, acylamino of C1W30, alkysulfonyl of C1W30, alkoxycarbony of C2W30, sulfonamide of C1W30), like, e.g., formula-II, is added at about 0.002 to 0.5 moles per mole of silver to a silver halide emulsion layer
